12 cyclists embarking on an epic 10-day cycle from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg, headed off from the Southern Sun Waterfront hotel early this morning. The team, made up of riders from Brazil, Germany, Portugal, Ireland, Kenya and South Africa, will then run the Comrades Marathon on the 11th day, Sunday 01 June. The team is riding in aid of Amabeadibeadi Charities and has already exceeded the 2014 target and raised over R1 million for these charities.

In the words of John McInroy, the founder of the Unogwaja Challenge: "This is a journey of the heart inspired by the life of Phil Masterton-Smith who in 1933 couldn’t afford the train fare from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg so he cycled up instead and finished 10th in the race, earning his nickname “Unogwaja” (meaning the hare in Zulu)".

Tsogo Sun is again a proud partner of the Unogwaja Challenge. Jeff Rosenberg, GM of the Southern Sun Waterfront, comments, “We are proud to be supporting this inspirational journey and playing a role as the Unogwajas live their dreams and contribute so generously to these needy charities”.
