Hair is a major contributor to beauty in women, and this is why women invest a lot of time and money at a hair salon to have their hair styled according to their face shape, body size and sometimes even their outfits. But there is so much more to beautiful hair than a good hairstyle. Ensuring that your hair is naturally healthy and lustrous, through a healthy diet and good hair hygiene, can make all the difference between and good and bad hair day.

Here are some beauty tips for hair that every woman should know.

1. Avoid stress

Stress not only causes health issues, such as high blood pressure and heart attacks, it also affects the growth of hair and general hair health. Stress causes excess pumping of cortisol from the adrenals that leads to the inflammation of the scalp, thus resulting in scalp and hair bacterial infection. Massaging your scalp on a weekly basis is recommended because it initiates relaxation of the mind, hence reducing stress, which will enable the hair to grow healthy and even more beautiful.

2. Avoid extremes when styling

Choosing a hairstyle, be it for long or short hair, is usually based on the shape of your face shape, body size, style of clothing and personal preference. What’s currently in fashion is also something to take into consideration. Just remember that although a certain style might look fantastic on a celebrity, your friend or colleague, it might not suit you.

Here’s what currently in fashion: braided design, dreadlocks, black bobs, buns, crown plait and ultra-sleek designs. If you are still not sure of which hairstyle will suit you best, consult your hair stylist, who will gladly guide you on the style that’s right for you.

3. Avoid excess heat

Excessive heat when styling hair can do a lot of harm to your hair, so reducing the rate at which the hair dryer or flat iron is applied is recommended. Also avoid using a lot of chemicals in your hair and being out in the sun without a hat, as it can cause your hair to become dry and brittle, resulting in breakages and hair loss. Using of a conditioner can help remedy this.

4. Follow a well-balanced diet

Proteins and nutrients in your day-to-day diet promote the growth of healthy hair by strengthening the hair follicles to prevent hair loss. Omega-3 oils also help keep the scalp and hair moisturized. Note that omega-3 contains nuts.

5. Use a conditioner rich in vitamins

Application of a good conditioner rich in vitamins helps to regulate the rate at which hormones and enzymes are produced, thus promoting the growth of hair and keeping it looking healthy, even during old age.


Other substances that promote healthy hair are:
• Onion juice - When applied to the scalp, onion juice helps prevent inflammation and subsequent possibility of loss of hair, as well as promotes hair growth.
• Aloe vera - When applied to the scalp, aloe vera also helps to prevent hair loss. Once applied, leave it on overnight, to ensure maximum healing.

6. Use the anti-gravity technique

This blow-drying technique is great for anyone with wavy hair. Bending over or simply leaning to one side will prevent excessive pulling of your hair (and less pain) during the blow-drying process. Also use a diffuser on you dryer, as this will ensure a larger spread of air to the hair and result in a smoother blow dry.

7. Apply a moisturizer to wavy hair after blow drying

Applying moisturizer after blow drying your hair will help to create and define curls, reduce any frizz and leave your hair looking healthy and shiny.
