It’s almost time to take to the streets of Soweto, illuminated by Energizer for a dazzling one-in-a-lifetime experience – the Tour de Township Light Race. Happening the night of the 10th of May 2014, runners, cyclists and walkers will experience street culture in this iconic township as never before, lit up and glowing with energy and light.

The routes have been selected to give participants a vibrant and authentic African experience, along a safe and guided route. Energizer has made the security of all involved a top concern. There will be venue security at the race start and end points; community safety marshals along the route and additional security staff at strategic points on the route as well. The SAPS and JMPD will be supporting the event, with a presence at key intersections, and there will be trained medical staff available throughout the race route and at the start and finish lines. The event has been planned with attention to detail and nothing has been spared to ensure that everyone who takes part will have a safe, enjoyable race, run or walk.

Safety officer Mike Lord is pleased at how the preparations for the race are progressing. “We have taken the safety considerations of the race very seriously. This is a large event and it is paramount that everyone feels comfortable and confident to take part. We have worked hard to make sure that the race will be a fun, secure event.” Community Liason manager Fats Maluleka agrees, saying, “Community safety marshals are primed and ready to guide runners, cyclists and walkers along the route. We are excited to welcome people to see Soweto and its many historical and cultural aspects.”
