The CANSA Lost City Cycling Weekend takes place at Sun City on the 16th of 17th of August 2014. Over 5 000 entries are expected for this year’s event which takes riders on a scenic and grueling tour of the rugged North West, passing a number of villages, the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, and the royal palace.

The event, now in its 17th year, is an official Premier Seeding Event for the 2015 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour. Held annually since 1998 at Sun City, the CANSA Lost City Cycling Weekend appeals to road racers and trail riders alike, with a mountain bike challenge and a road race to choose from.

This year’s road race, once again sponsored by Powerade, takes places on Saturday the 16th of August, with the mountain bike challenge, sponsored by BestMed taking place the following day, Sunday the 17th. For the road race, there are three distances to choose from, a challenging 115km route, a 66km route, and a friendly 12km ride on the Lost City and Gary Player Golf Course

The mountain bike challenge, now in its 8th year, has grown to become one of the “must-enter” events on South Africa’s mountain biking calendar. Over 850 mountain bike riders took part in last year’s challenge. The number of entries is expected to grow this year as it has consistently done since the event’s inception. There is a 50km race for the more adventurous mountain bike enthusiasts, which is now also an official Premier Seeding Event for the 2015 Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour. Participants can also look forward to a challenging, yet enjoyable 25km race and kids are catered for in a fun 1km race.

According to the race organizer, Johan du Toit, entries are limited to 4000 for the road race, and 1000 for the mountain bike challenge. Cyclists keen to enter are urged to register as soon as they can. Online entries at www.Cycleeventsco.za and www.cansalostcity.co.za close on the 5th of August.

People can also register at Cycle Lab Centurion on Wednesday the 13th of August between 09h00 and 16h00, at Cycle Lab Fourways between 09h00 and 16h00 on Thursday the 14th of August, and at the Sun City Sports and Social Club from 11h00 to 19h30 on Friday the 15th of August. Entries for the 12km road event and the kiddies' races are accepted at the start.
