Jacques Marais Appointed Sony Imaging Ambassador in SA

It is hard to imagine anyone epitomising the phrase “the world is your playground” more aptly than South African photo-journalist and author, Jacques Marais. For years he has captured and shared the essence of adventure and physical extremes from behind a lens. Fluent in three languages and very much an African at heart, Jacques is as comfortable navigating wilderness areas as he is weaving stories from behind his desk. His words and images, featured regularly in global media as well as in his own published works, inspire and communicate a life well beyond the mundane.

For the past three years, Jacques has enjoyed a successful and mutually beneficial relationship with Nikon. Utilising their range of imaging equipment to capture incredible moments and memories, he crisscrossed the globe from the Kalahari to East Greenland, Mongolia and beyond, constantly searching for those most definitive photographs. This relationship captured moments of extreme human endeavour, inspiring many a journey while contributing to more than a dozen books and countless articles.

As ever, seasons change. In an effort to ensure that the world remains his (absolutely connected and integrated) playground, Jacques will with immediate effect take up an offer to align himself with global electronics giant, SONY. Their class-leading imaging and related electronic systems will allow him to merge image capturing on the Sony range of SLT and Mirrorless cameras with mobile devices, computers and action cameras, as part of a cross-platform digital solution. “I want to state unequivocally that this was a mutual decision, taken in conjunction with Nikon, and that I will always hold their brand in high regard”, said Marais.

“We are very excited to get Jacques on board as a SONY α ambassador and we expect him to take our equipment right to the proverbial coal face of adventure. No doubt the term ‘mobile office’ will be stretched to the extreme through the exciting and varied work produced by Jacques Marais Media, in partnership with SONY.” – Chantell Weatherill, Senior Product Manager - Digital Imaging.

With a number of expeditions planned for the immediate future, including potential trips to Venezuela and Antarctica, outdoor enthusiasts can look forward to continued inspiration as Jacques’ words and images continue to feed and fuel the outdoor adventure community’s collective imagination.
