The Magalies Retreat will play host to South Africa’s first installment of Legion Run, one of the world’s most popular obstacle trail races that has shot to prominence in Europe. On 3 October 2015, adventure-seeking individuals from all walks of life will be given the opportunity to conquer no less than 18 obstacles over a 5km course set in the beautiful cradle of humankind. Legion is an event that is recognized worldwide for it’s non-competitive character, and therefore encourages participants of all fitness levels and activities looking for a great day out. After completing the course, participants will be able to celebrate alongside their family and friends with live entertainment, beer tents and food.

The first event in South Africa will be the 6th event on Legion Run’s world tour. Legion was started in Cyprus in 2014 and has since toured Europe and continues to expand all over the world with events set to be launched in North America later in 2015.

“We are delighted to be the first country outside of Europe to host the Legion Run event and hope the South African public will come out in their numbers to come play in the mud,” said event director Marc Eunson. "Legion Run offers something primal and liberating for the participants. It is an incomparable experience for both the runners and the spectators. The unique combination of physical and mental challenges, unavoidable teamwork coupled with live entertainment, food and beer tents has proven to be a winning formula as we have witnessed in the European events, and this is the experience we are aiming to replicate in October. We are convinced that Legion Run will be one of the top five days in the lives of those who will participate”.

The obstacle course is spread over 5km and participants ‘minds and bodies are tested by the several obstacles that lie in wait. Up to three hundred runners start together, every 15 minutes starting at 10:00 with the last wave at 15:30.
