The Ultimate Golf GPS Handheld and Watch Range

Words: Garmin Southern Africa

Play golf like you know you really can. The game-changing Garmin Approach range takes the guesswork out of golf, with a new range of GPS-enabled golf devices for the social and professional golfer.

Garmin’s Approach Range has worldwide coverage and comes preloaded with over 30 000 golf courses, so you can take your game across boarder. FREE lifetime course updates are available at no extra cost or subscription fee. Once at the course, the built in GPS-receiver will pin point the course which you are at, as you get ready to tee off. Once you tee off these devices will read precise metres to key features and will improve course management and speed of play.

The Garmin Approach range consists of two wrist worn devices, for ease of use and one handheld device, for a more detailed perspective. The Approach S2 and S3 wrist worn devices are similar in many ways. With one glance at your wrist from any point on the course, you are able to see the distance to the front, back and middle of greens, with clear and easy-to-read numbering. With the course management feature, the layup distances show you the distances to each layup and dogleg, great if you haven’t played a course before.

The internal rechargeable battery lasts up to 8 hours in GPS mode which equals approximately 2 rounds of golf or 3 weeks in watch mode. When you smash the ball down the fairway, seeing how far you hit it is a breeze. Approach S2 and S3 calculate exact distance for shots played anywhere on the course. With the digital scorecard feature you can keep a record of stroke play for individual players and after your game you can save, review and print scorecards from your home computer. Further the S2 and S3 have an odometer so you can see how far you walk each day, or every round you play, as well as functioning as an everyday watch.

The more advanced Approach S3 has a high-resolution touchscreen which is glove friendly and allows players to input and save customisable distance points – like water hazards or bunkers – from anywhere on the course. The S3 shows you the true shape and layout of greens so even if you have an obstructed view you’ll know where to aim. Plus, you can touch and drag the pin to the day’s location. The enhanced scoring feature allows you to score in Stroke Play or Stableford for individual players.

Giving you a more detailed perspective of the course, the Approach G6 is a handheld device with a high-resolution glove friendly colour touchscreen with 2 easy to use buttons for instant access to Green View, Shot Measure and Digital Scorecard. Press the Green button to zoom in on the green – then you can drag the flag to the day’s position, for more accurate distance information.

The Approach G6 has an internal rechargeable battery that lasts up to 15 hours so you can play an entire weekend on a single charge. The rugged and waterproof G6 is built to endure the outdoor elements is ideal for coping with the wind, rain or any water hazard mishaps. With a digital scorecard, you can keep track of scores for up to 4 golfers, manage or review totals or an individual’s score throughout the round, or access a printable version on your computer after the round. New scoring options include Stroke Play, Stableford, Skins and Match Play with adjustable handicaps the G6 lets you continuously update and average how far you hit each club, plus, you can customise the names of your clubs, from your “Big Dawg” driver to your “Money Maker” putter. The G6 calculates exact distance for shots played anywhere on the course, and with Layup arcs drawn on the map offer at-a-glance references to 100, 150, 200 and 250 meters layups. With touch-targeting letting you touch any point on the display for the precise distance to this point, as well as the approach distance from the point to the Green.
