Welcome to the launch of the first ever Geocaching Mega Event in South Africa

The exciting 3 day Geocaching Mega Event, proudly associated with Garmin, will be hosted in Pretoria from Friday the 5th to the Sunday the 7th of October and will see Africa’s largest social gathering of geocachers yet! Individuals and families, both local and international, who share an interest in outdoor exploration and geocaching will come together to share adventure stories and participate in various geocaching activites and challenges, all in support of promoting the wonderful sport of geocaching.

For those of you who don’t know, Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is one of the fastest growing outdoor recreation activities with more than one and a half million people participating worldwide. Geocaching is a form of high-tech treasure hunting where adventure seekers of all ages equipped with GPS-enabled devices explore the great outdoors. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Not only is geocaching interesting and fun, but it’s a great activity that provides excitement, exercise, and fresh air.

Venture off the beaten track and become a part of the global geocaching craze! Geocaching is no doubt one of the best ways to explore the vast expanses of South Africa, and with so many wonderful places to see and experience, the adventure begins long before the destination [or geocache] is reached. To find out about caches in your area go to www.opencaching.com or even create your own hidden treasure for others to find.
