Bizhub dominate Hill2Hill

The Sunday Tribune Jeep Hill 2 Hill MTB Marathon is the only one-day mountain bike marathon between the cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban. The race took place on September 16, starting at Hilton and finishing at hillcrest 105kms later.

Three riders from Team bizhub made the journey down to Hilton. Ischen Stopforth and Yolandi Du Toit who had finished 1st and 2nd in the 2011 event together with bizhub’s ‘rising star’ Nicci Grobler.
“I raced it for the first time in 2011, pulling off a win and this year I was back to defend my title” said Ischen.

Where the 2011 race was remembered for its brutal heat, 2012 will be remembered as a mud fest! After plenty of rain the week leading up to the race and even more predicted for the weekend, the race turned out to be a...

Ride2Nowhere - Definitely isn’t to nowhere…

This past weekend saw the inaugural running of the Ride2Nowhere, a three day Mountain Bike stage race based in the beautiful town of McGregor. Steeped in history and rich in architecture, McGregor proved to be the perfect location for this family oriented event.

The route, averaging 60km a day, took the riders on a clover leaf around McGregor, providing spectacular views and testing terrain that rewarded both the experienced and novice mountain bikers. Relatively short riding times meant that the riders would be finished before lunch time, leaving plenty time to experience the charm of McGregor with their loved ones.

Highlights out on the route included a 300m dam crossing on inflatable boats on day 1, which by all accounts was thoroughly enjoyed, although word from the...

joBerg2c creates three and six-day rides

Mountain bikers who are unable to ride the full nine days of the Old Mutual joBerg2c can now experience the event with the shorter three and six-day options in April next year.

According to spokesman Craig Wapnick, organisers decided to offer the shorter options in order to give more riders the chance to experience the off-road route, which crosses more than 90 private farms and is inaccessible at any other time of year.

“The nine-day event is still the real deal and we’ve had a great response to that,” said Wapnick.

“But these options allow us to share the vibe of the race villages and the incredible route with riders who are either strapped for time or don’t quite have nine days in their legs.”

Wapnick said the three-day event through the Free State...

Bizhub pair on form at EQSTRA Spring Classic

On the 9th September, the Avianto clubhouse in Muldersdrift Johannesburg hosted the 17th edition of the EQSTRA Spring Classic.

The route started and finish at the beautiful Avianto Clubhouse on the opposite side of the river from the famed Avianto wedding venue. This is a fantastic venue for the event and is becoming a Mecca for mountain biking and trail running.

The 45km riders tackled some fast district roads and some fun single-track, a challenging climb was also included on the course taking the riders over the Driefontein Waterworks koppie.

“The course was similar to cross country racing as it consisted of short steep ascents and descents and a lot of winding single track. I enjoyed the route with its constant challenges as there was always another tricky...
